Meet Kevin
Founder of Living-Beyond Cancer and Current Cancer Patient
In 2016, Kevin Allen found himself in excruciating pain, barely able to walk. After numerous trips to the emergency room, surgery, and a staggering weight loss of 90 pounds, Kevin and his family knew something more serious was happening. That suspicion was confirmed when doctors at UCSF Medical Center diagnosed him with Stage 4 prostate cancer. The cancer had spread to his spine, hip, and lungs, propelling him into a battle that would include a 12-hour spinal surgery, failed chemotherapy, and 15 rounds of radiation.
Despite the enormity of his diagnosis, Kevin’s spirit remained unbroken. Through every treatment, his mantra, “Get Back Up,” carried him through the darkest days. “I made a decision to get back up right after surgery and have never looked back.”
Before his diagnosis, Kevin had built a distinguished career as a police officer, competitive bodybuilder, fitness club founder and personal trainer. His deep-rooted expertise in health and wellness gave him the strength and knowledge to fight for his recovery. It also laid the foundation for what would later become Living-Beyond Cancer—a deeply personal mission born from both his own battle and his immense gratitude for those who stood by him.
During his treatment, Kevin was deeply moved by the kindness and compassion of the oncology nurses, doctors, and family members who supported him. Their empathy was instrumental in his healing, and he resolved to give back to those who provide such vital care.
During his treatment, Kevin was profoundly moved by the empathy and dedication of the oncology nurses, doctors, and his family members, who supported him every step of the way. Their kindness played a critical role in his healing, and he resolved to give back to the caregivers whose compassion fuels the healing process for so many. He embraced his doctor’s words: “Swing for a home run and knock the cancer out of the park.”
Today, at 61, Kevin is still fighting cancer but doing so with incredible resolve. He channels his gratitude and experience into Living-Beyond Cancer, the non-profit he founded to support the physical and emotional well-being of caregivers. His goal is to ensure that these selfless individuals, who so often go unnoticed, receive the holistic care and support they need to continue their vital work with strength and resilience.
Kevin, a San Francisco native, now resides in Oakland with his wife, Daphany. He is the proud father of three children: Ashley Andrew, and Jackson. With our pilot program, Kevin operates locally reaching all of UCSF’s oncology nurses/
Our Philosophy
At Living-Beyond Cancer, we deeply understand that wellness is more than just a physical pursuit—it’s a holistic journey that nurtures the mind, body, heart, spirit, and the connections we share with others. We believe that self-care must replenish every ounce that cancer takes away. That’s why we focus equally on mental, physical, dietary, and emotional well-being through a variety of thoughtful, personalized programs designed to meet caregivers where they are. Most importantly, we ensure that no one has to navigate this journey alone. Wellness, like cancer, is a journey made easier and more effective through a community of support.
Inspired by the experiences and passions of our founder, Kevin, whose approach to wellness was always comprehensive—even before his cancer diagnosis.
“I had to take a detour with cancer,” says Kevin. “But, I’m truly thankful that I was in great shape to begin with. It just goes to show how investing in yourself today pays off tomorrow in ways you can’t possibly imagine.”
Kevin’s journey through cancer deepened his passion for holistic wellness. From structured fitness routines to transformative changes in his diet, he embraced every aspect of well-being to help fuel his fight for life. His recovery wasn’t just about overcoming a diagnosis—it was about rediscovering strength through every facet of his health.
Within a year and a half of his diagnosis, Kevin was back in the gym and taking on new clients. Equipped with new lessons on health and wellness, he refined his care methodologies as a practice that can serve others in similar circumstances. Drawing from his healing journey, he also authored several books on diet and lifestyle to support those navigating wellness. His titles include:
